MPs and Ministers (30 July 1999)

A week ago two of the Committee members (Charlie and Iain) met Steve Webb MP for dinner. Mr Webb is the Liberal Democrat MP for Northavon and instigator of the 'Internet debate' a month and a half ago.

The discussion was very friendly and cordial, it lasted two and a half hours and Charlie and Iain are sure that Mr Webb will be a good friend of CUT. Since the meeting he has passed on details of three other Liberal Democrat MPs who are custodians of the Internet flame; we will be meeting them in due course.

Continuing with the same theme, we have arranged a meeting with Michael Wills MP, the Minister for Small Firms in the Department of Trade and Industry (or his successor if there is a Cabinet reshuffle and he is moved) who currently deals with Internet matters on behalf of the Government. The meeting is scheduled for 9 September between 3pm and 4pm (a long time!), and we are beginning work on a presentation which we will give on the day.
