But no, Minister! (15 June 1999)

We decided we had to respond to Michael Wills following the 9 June House of Commons debate.

Really, his response to Steve Webb was terribly complacent; possibly the most annoying aspect of it was that broadband access - specifically cable modems - has been 'coming soon' for three years in our experience, and vague exhortations are not going to make it appear any more quickly. As our American campaigning friends say, 'competition is not automatic'.

There was so much to query in what he said our open letter eventually ran to six pages, and we've hand-delivered it to him and a number of other MPs as well as working it into a press release.

Responses are awaited, and we'll keep you informed.
