Riding the crest of a wave (20 April 2000)

Our Annual General Meeting took place on 9 April: we have written a detailed account of what happened. To summarise:

On the Committee, we have two new office-holders for 2000-1 (Alastair Scott, as Moderator, and Erol Ziya, as Press Officer, being replaced by Charlie Sands and Sunil Sood respectively). The Committee is now nine people, as Alastair and Erol have retired to the back benches (now serving as Committee Members) and Kyle Lamb and Reg Proudfoot have joined as Committee Members;

Those present voted to alter the Mission Statement to reflect our changing priorities (in effect, we turn our attention to broadband telecommunications);

Those present voted to bestow on Tim Berners-Lee a lifetime Honorary Membership in recognition of his very generous support for us.

As you will see from Charlie's remarks we are far from finished; although the most important battles are won - and they only had to be won once - there is still much to be resolved before we can even contemplate feeling satisfied.
