The mission of the Campaign for Unmetered Telecommunications (CUT) is to highlight the importance of telecommunications technology that is fundamental to the future growth of our nation. To this end we will campaign for: + In the first instance, introduction of unmetered charges, for calls to an Internet Service Provider using a telephone modem, as part of standard telephone tariffs to enable everyone who wants to to access the Internet without incurring open-ended costs; + Quicker availability of modern access techniques, such as cable modems and xDSL, charged at a flat rate; + Replacement of the current system of metered interconnect charges between telecommunications operators; + Closer correspondence between call charges and the audited cost to operators of providing these calls; + Reform of regulatory bodies to balance the interests of the market, of the consumer and of industry.
